‘SEE YOUR NAME IN PRINT’

MARCO FERRARESE

Dates: October 25-27 2019

RM1700 PER PERSON (GBP337 PER PERSON)

Do you wonder how to go about writing a magazine article? Or ever fancied seeing your name in print, or your digital byline on a flashy website? Come learn how to write a magazine article as you enjoy great hospitality and homecooked food on a beautiful tropical island!

There's a place and a person: the place is Pangkor, an off-key Malaysian island with many stories under its skin. And the person is Marco Ferrarese, a well-published book author and freelance writer specializing in travel, who will be holding your hand while you learn to improve your thinking, writing and marketing skills.

Over 2 nights & 3 days, you'll be with Marco at Tiger Rock, Pangkor's well-established artistic boutique eco-resort, designed by Malaysian artist Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson.

You will be learning how to research your story from the ground (the island), concentrate to let it flow out of your fingertips, and get into editor mode to craft it into a very readable shape. In other words, we'll meet on Saturday morning with barely an idea, and we'll leave on Monday afternoon holding a 1000-words-long, finished piece of writing in our hands. You may be able to pitch it to any kind of magazine your angle appeals to.

But this writing retreat it's not just that: in these three action-and-relaxation-packed days, Marco will teach you how to effectively write a pitch that sells your story; research some unique angles that people want to read (and magazine editors want to buy); and work closely with you on your piece to make you understand hook, flow, structure, and powerful storytelling.

Sounds like a lot, right... Do you wonder how are we going to do that? Well, by sitting together in a small, tight-knit group at Tiger Rock, by a fantastic poolside, discussing the exact TECHNIQUES that help Marco get up in the morning and do the work, day in and day out. He will be sharing the same methods he used to publish 4 books and more than 200 magazine articles for some of the world's leading travel and Asian-interest publications. During the retreat, you will be learning a lot and applying some of it to your own thinking and writing process in crafting a piece.

Of course, besides the mentoring sessions, we'll also give you the individual time you all need to get those creative juices going, win resistance, and fill up the page with your first draft. And of course, lounge by the poolside, explore the island, and enjoy Tiger Rock's delicious food and artsy rooms.

DETAILS ON THE COURSE:

This writing retreat is designed for content creators of all types and levels, and it's ideal for both beginners and experienced writers who struggle with what Marco calls “connecting the dots”. In other words, making sure that a writer is proactively working towards one final goal of creating content that smartly helps him/her shape an online presence and a niche expertise.

Are you a food blogger or wannabe travel writer struggling to find your focus? A designer setting up your website & blog? A birdwatcher who wants to record your experiences on your own blog? Are you a writer who needs help to blend your emotions into a carefully thought angle? Do you need a better vision to start blogging in order to give your business a solid Google boost?

This retreat is for you then. Besides giving you time to work on your piece and help you make it better, Marco will show you the recipe to write a pitch that work, give you a basic and working understanding of the best SEO practices to kick butt in Google rankings, and explain how, in this day and age, it's niching down and specializing that gets writers their best chance to stand out.

We'll touch on idea generation tools and techniques, productivity tips, the real use of social media channels, and how to stay sane doing all of this.

You will learn the exact same techniques and routines that helped Marco become one of South and Southeast Asia's leading adventure travel writers, and publish 200-odd articles for some of the world's leading travel magazines, websites and guidebooks.
